What Metabolism
is.
In the simplest terms,
metabolism is the rate at which your body burns
calories.
What Influences Your
Metabolism.
There are many things that
influence your metabolism, some you can change
and some that you can't
change.
Things that you can't
Change:
Heredity
- Your parents may pass their metabolic
rate to you.
Thyroid Disorder - A small
percentage of people have a thyroid problem
that affects their metabolism.
Sex - Men generally have a
higher metabolism rate than women because
they have more muscle mass.
Age - Your metabolism
generally decreases as you
age.
How to increase your
metabolism and get a flat
stomach.
1. Eat smaller, more frequent
meals.
When
you have longer periods of time between
meals, your body can go into "starvation
mode", which decreases your metabolims
because your body is trying
to save
energy and prevent starvation. Skipping
meals does not help you lose weight, in
fact people generally eat less overall
when they eat smaller, more
frequent meals. When you eat more
smaller meals, you feel fuller throughout
the day and will be less likely to eat
unhealthy foods. Also, since your
are eating more frequently, your body
is constantly burning energy to digest
the food which increases your metabolism.
Incorporate good eating habits
and fat burning foods
into your meals to help you get a
flat
stomach.
2. Drink Lots of
Water.
Our
bodies are made almost entirely of water,
and more than ninety percent of the
chemical reactions in our body occur in
water. The more water you
drink, the
better our bodies
function.
3. Aerobic
Exercises
Add
or increase the amount of aerobic
exercise that you do to increase your
metabolisn and get a flat stomach.
Aerobic exercise that increases the heart
rate can
raise your metabolism while you're
exercising and for hours afterwards.
Different exercises burn different
quantities of calories, but the
important thing is to raise your heart rate
and sustain the activity for
approximately 30
minutes.
Note:
Always consult with your doctor about
your exercise program.
4. Weight
Training
Add
weight training into your flat stomach
quest, if you are not already doing so.
Muscle burns more calories than fat does,
so the more muscle you have
the higher your metabolism. Muscles
burn calories to recover and repair
themselves. You don't have to get big
like the incredible hulk, just use weight
training to
tone your muscles.
If
you would like to get more detailed
information about your metabolism, there
is an incredible book
Maximize Your Metabolism by Christopher
Guerriero that is full of
information on your metabolism and will help
you get that flat stomach.
